Author Interview with Susan Noble

Morning Folks.

Today we welcome author Susan Noble author of The Search.

Susan, thanks much for coming to chat with us.

Thank you Ahmad for having me. I'm happy to share a bit about me with your audience.

Glad to hear it. Can you tell us:

Where do you currently reside, and why did you choose this place?
I live in San Antonio, Texas. After my husband graduated law school, we moved to a smaller town in Texas but didn’t enjoy it. We decided to move to San Antonio because it was large enough to offer many different things to do - theme parks, professional sports, theatre, museums, restaurants. We have been here for just over 10 years and love it.

Tell us about your latest novel in 20 words or less:
Tosh, a telepathic cat, questions whether he should abandon the search for the one foretold to save the Land.

So it's non-fiction then?

Exactly!

Does writing get easier with each project?
I am currently working on book three of The Elemental trilogy so in this case each novel has been easier to write as the characters are already developed. Even with my latest short story, The Search, I took one of the main characters from my trilogy and wrote a story just about him, which was easy to do since I knew him well.

What has been the most exciting part of being a published author?
I think the most exciting thing is to have people read your work and actually comment that they liked it.

I agree, that is a treat for authors.

What has been the worst part of being a published author?
I think the worst (and hardest) part of being a self-published author is the amount of marketing you have to do. There are so many books out there, and you have to work hard to get readers to notice your book. Even after a year, I am still figuring out which marketing strategies work.

Yes, it can certainly be a struggle.

If you could talk to your former self, what advice would you give her?
I started writing my first novel after college and over the years took some breaks from working on it either due to becoming busy with other things or after receiving rejection letters from publishers. If I could go back and visit the young writer, I would tell my former self not to get discouraged and keep on writing no matter what.

Wise words indeed.

As a writer, it is considered unprofessional and inappropriate to give a retort to a critic or criticism. Were it “politically correct” to address your critics personally, what would be the one thing you would say to them?
I would probably demand to know what was wrong with them. I mean really, who couldn’t like my novel.  J/K

Are you currently working on any other projects?
I am currently editing the third book in my The Elemental trilogy. I am hoping to have Destiny released this fall.

My latest interview w/ Joyce Strand of "Strand's Simply Tips"

Q What do you like to do in your non-work, aka, spare time?
In theory I write with any and all of my spare time. But in reality, I love watching movies and sports, and the weekend beverage with my compatriots.
Q Are there any other genres you can imagine yourself writing in?
I don’t think I am going to write any one specific genre exclusively for my career. I like to read and watch all genres and I would like to write in them all as well.
The toughest but most exciting would be comedy. I have always dreamt of doing comedic writing so when I eventually tackle that it will be exciting and fun for me.

Author Interview with: Monique Morgan writer of: Rise of the Infected

Today we welcome author Monique Morgan, who is currently touring the blogosphere with her sneak peak cover reveal of: Rise of the Infected.

I know you have been quite busy these days Monique, but thank you for stopping by to chat with us for a moment.

Sure thing. I’m happy to get a chance to talk with your readers.

Where do you currently reside, and why did you choose this place?

I currently live in Utah. I lived a large majority of my life here and I have a big family that lives here. My dad was in the Air Force and we spent many years stationed elsewhere, so I appreciate being around them.

O.K. Let’s get people excited… Can you tell us about your novel Rise of the Infected in 20 words or less:

A Dystopian world, ravaged by the planet and the survivors, and finally the Rise of the Infected.

Besides the pure joy of having completed a piece of work, what would you say has been the most exciting part of being a published author?

The most exciting thing is having these stories that I have created become reality. It’s one thing to dream them up, but then to put them on paper and allow others to read them, there’s something everlasting in that.

I most certainly agree with you.

Is there an Author (alive or dead) that you would really like to meet were you given the chance?

My favorite author of all time would have to be Anne Rice, there was always something very beautiful about her work that I found timeless. It would be wonderful to meet her and walk the areas that influenced her books.

Are you currently working on any other projects?

I am. I just finished up Dreamer, the second book in the Alwahi series, which will be due out around the same time as Rise of the Infected.

I also just started (I have a habit of starting my next project in the middle of my current project) a work in progress (WIP) that I have fallen in love with!

This book has yet to be named, but already has a cover, and is based in a technological world where cybernetics and human cloning are only just the beginning.

Sounds like you will be pretty busy for quite some time.

Yes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What was the last movie you watched? Did you like it, hate it?

The last movie that I saw I absolutely LOVED and it also influenced my current WIP. I adored the city atmosphere of Total Recall, the way the buildings just stacked on top of each other, a hodgepodge stacking of blocks.

Where can readers find your works and follow you?

Readers can visit my website http://www.moniquemorgan.com to find out all about my current books and my WIP. They can also like my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MoniqueMorganAuthor.

Well, we’d like to thank you for stopping by for a quick little chat.

Please come back soon and update us on the success of Rise as well as Dreamer, and any new projects you have on the horizon.

Rise of the Infected by Monique Morgan - Cover Reveal Blog Tour

Releases October 31st

River Black lives in a world where only the strong survive. The earth has changed to a brutal climate and the survivors will do anything to live. The eastern continents unleash a biochemical weapon on their enemies, and directly onto River’s world. She will have to leave her quiet existence in the forest and venture to the slaver fortress and further beyond, into the deepest part of the surviving cities. If she doesn’t die first, or rise infected…

Excerpt:
Aspen was the first to speak, all of us still slightly in shock at what we had just witnessed.
“We have to clear out the house. I don’t know if all of them left, or if some of them got in, but we have to know for sure,” he said, the urgency in his voice clear.
“I’ll take upstairs,” I responded immediately, wanting to get a familiar perch from above, and recalculate our current situation.
The fire still burned in the pit in the entryway, illuminating the three of us as I walked up the curved stairs. I quickly lost sight of them, the wall turning smoothly into a hall. The hallway was covered in shadows, the dying embers of fire pits casting light through the open doors of the rooms.
“Hello,” I called out weakly.
I didn’t like the idea of going blindly into each room, possibly ambushed at any moment. It would be better to draw them out into the hall, and cut them down as they ran towards me.
I waited, my body tense and fluid at the same time, ready to spring if needed. But nothing came. I spoke louder a second time, my ears straining as my voice traveled down the hall. Once again nothing came out of the rooms and I walked forward, entering each one and searching every corner, my rifle always ready.
A few were bedrooms, which I frowned upon. It was a bad omen to have bedrooms aboveground. It was obvious that the townspeople had become lazy. I entered one more room that was a study, a desk crammed into the corner, covered in books. Even in the most stressful situation, I found myself becoming excited at the plethora of reading material that was before me. It was rare to see one book, let alone dozens.
The last thing in the hallway was the stairs leading to the final floor. Once again I walked the smooth curve of the stairwell, the stone giving off a sense of protection, although it would do nothing to help me if I was attacked by the infected.
It was dark down the long hallway, only one room at the far end giving any light, the rest of the doors closed. Once again I called out and waited, keeping my eyes on the farthest room. I was greeted only by the sound of my own voice.
Taking a breath, I pushed open the closest door, holding my gun out in front of me. I knew the moment I stepped in the room that I was not alone, there was a presence in the room, a presence in turmoil. I could almost hear the chaotic thoughts, trapped and angry. I knew when I heard the low animalistic growl, that I had walked into the room of one of the infected.
My shoes slipped on the floor as I walked towards the sound, a trail of blood beneath me, as though someone had dragged themselves to the door and shut it. I walked around the bed towards the continued hissing, expecting the creature to come sprinting at me. But it remained in the corner. I walked closer, and finally saw white gleaming eyes as it stared at me, a hideous grin on its face.
It was a woman, or what was left of a woman.
These rooms were bare compared to the extravagant rooms below. I could only imagine the ones belowground. Logic would say that they belonged to servants, possibly even slaves. It was clear that even with the thick window covering the rooms would quickly get hot during the extreme heat. It would be torturous to be forced to live up here. On a beautiful day like this, they had all probably had their windows open, the first to succumb to the plague that had been dropped upon us.
I almost tripped over the two severed legs that were littered on the floor. It looked like someone had taken an axe to them, and the brutality of the scene shocked me. Instead of dying, the woman’s wounds had almost healed, the blood stopping its flow.
The growling increased as the woman dragged herself by her arms towards me. Her mouth had started the rabid chomping that seemed a telltale trait of the infected. Bloody fingers reached for me, just as I lifted the rifle once again and placed it to the woman’s temple, pulling the trigger with a quickly flick of my finger.
I took a closer look at the carnage around me, the bloody legs and the limp body of the infected woman. “Yup, looks like a Zombie to me.”
I wiped the blood from my boots in the hallway, leaving a creepy trail of red footprints. There was one more room before the open one at the end, and my hairs rose as I pushed open the next door. I was greeted by silence, the room empty. Even the shutters were closed, and from the dust on the furniture I could tell it had been some time since anyone had been here.
I moved back out into the hall and walked towards the last room, the light was not coming from a burning pit but from an open window, the sun shining into the room. My trigger finger tensed once again, concentrating on everything in front of me. The first thing I saw was the bed, covered in blood. Another servant was there, axe marks evident on her body.
But this one was clearly dead, its head lying a few feet from the body.
“I doubt you will be getting up,” I said, and that’s when I realized there was someone else in the room.
It was another woman, her hair dark and her clothes fine. She was not some servant, but a mistress of the house. She was young, not much older than I was, and she carried an axe that dripped blood onto the floor as she stared at me.
